Definition |
Characterized by poorly controlled unusuall sensastions and aching in the legs, mostly in the calves and pretibial reas, usually at night causing insomnia, that disappear on movement. Associated iwht irion deficiency anemia, pregnancy, and cancer. Occasionally occur with periodic involuntary movements of the leg. |
Treatment |
a) Exercise – Stretching of the hamstrings and posterior leg muscles for 5 minutes before retiring at night. (See illustration in end of chapter) b) Eliminate caffeine c) Drugs – clonazepam 1 mg at night is the best. Others that might help are Carbamezapine (200 mg tid), antidepressants, Propranolol, ldopa and bromcriptine |
